Roberts, in April 1838, by preparing a model of the vessel, which was owned by a predecessor of the Company. Correspondence with Reader concerns the history he is writing, and photographs to be included in it. Also present are two letters from February 1952 regarding a recently-published history of the Company, referred to by Professor Denis Gwynn in his ‘Now and Then’ column in the Cork Examiner.

File, 'Sirius' Model

File regarding a model of the ‘Sirius’ prepared for the British Industries Fair. In a letter of 28 Sep 1939, Kenneth Bayes points out to the Company that a model of the Sirius, a famous transatlantic vessel originally owned by the Company, is on display at the British Pavilion at New York’s World Fair. Correspondence regarding possible purchase of the model followed, but it was ultimately deposited in the Mariners’ Museum, New York. There are no items for the years 1940-46. The file contains a 16 Nov 1939 newscutting regarding a film called ‘Rulers of the Sea’ about the Sirius’s voyage from Cork to New York, starring Margaret Lockwood and Douglas Fairbanks jun., directed by Frank Lloyd.

Three files. The first two are headed ‘Along the Waterfront’ and ‘Irish Press’, 1952 – 1953. Rex MacGall (‘McLir’) wrote a series of articles called ‘Along the Waterfront’ for the Irish Press newspaper, and regularly sought and was sent notes on Cork shipping by RB Sinnot, General Manager of the Company. The file also contains letters received from passengers regarding the articles, letters from staff members supplying further information, and typescripts of many of MacGall’s articles. The articles provide much information on shipping activity at Cork harbour, and on its history. The third file contains a draft script for a radio documentary, with the working title ‘Irish Sea Steam - Transport’, marked ‘copied at Cork 2.3.’56’.
