Scope and Content: Letterbook labelled 'Circular Letters to Captains'. Inside the front cover is a list of 'Dates of Captains Circulars'. The volume contains copies of outgoing letters from the Company Secretary. LW Glover signed letters as company secretary from 1844 to 1862. George Cotter Beale signed letters as secretary from 1866 to 1871. The letters refer to a range of subjects, including regulations, disciplinary matters, collisions, and passenger arrangements. A calendar, listing the letters in date order, noting the names of the ship and the captain, and giving a brief description of content, is given as an appendix to the descriptive list.
