PART I CALENDAR OF CORK EMIGRANT SHIP SAILINGS 1815-60

at Quebec and Montreal in 1847 is 98,106 , being an increase of 65,353 over the number arrived in 1846. Among the emigrants of this year, the deaths on the voyage, in quarantine and at the hospitals, after landing, amount to the enormous number of 13,365 . *Report of the Emigration Officer at St John Of 17,074 emigrants who embarked for New Brunswick in 99 vessels from Ireland and 7 from Liverpool the death-toll exceeded 2,100 (Part ll 3A). * Emigration to North America Total UK emigration in 1847 was 258,270 ; distribution: BNA: 42%, US: 55%, Australia: 2%. Most Irish emigrants travelled from Liverpool and chose New York over Quebec (47,650 v 27,051). Emigration directly from Cork in 1847 : BNA: 13,159 , US: 4,360 (McCarthy 2019, 270). Statistics are consistent with the Cork Calendar of Ships findings presented above (33 Cork-based ship voyages and 72 ships from other ports in the A-List and B-List above).
