Sailed newly married on the Hebe to Australia from Queenstown in February 1853, where he used irons to restrain crew members, who wanted to go gold-digging. Proceeding to Burma to pick up a timber cargo, he died during the voyage from a fever and was buried in Burma on 24 October 1853.
