Voyaged to Quebec, St John NB and St Andrews Rescue at Sea. The Galway bark John & Mary commanded by Brougham voyaging from Quebec to London with timber required repairs at Cape Breton before proceeding. However, she sprang a leak and foundered 24 Oct 1844 during an Atlantic gale. After five perilous days the Eliza Ann under Captain Clarke detected her and rescued the crew of fourteen and one passenger, delivering them to Cork 9 Nov 1844. Captain Brougham was acknowledged for his skill throughout the event.
