One quarter (approximately 133,506) of all New York City residents in 1850 were born in Ireland. Further development between 1850 and 1860 ( 1860 US Census): New York City Irish foreign-born residents increased from approximately 133,506 to 203,740. Irish-born residents in New York State increased by about 154,262 - from approximately 343,801 to 498,072.

In 1816 Philadelphia had 307 ship arrivals and traded heavily with the Caribbean, while her modest trade with Great Britain was through the ports of London, Liverpool, Bristol, Newcastle, Glasgow, Belfast, Londonderry, and Dublin.
