as a second overseer, and when that work is completed his employment of course will cease. "The Council are not less anxious than the other members of the Cor- poration that the Water Bailiff's accounts should be particularly investi- -~ gated, and every attention given to the public revenues to make them most · .1' productive. .. , " Therefore are of opinion, that the best mode of considering the same will be for a Committee of the Council to meet a Committee from the Commons to be appointed at a C. D. H., and for those gentlemen to pro- pose to the Council what appears to them the most eligible and effectual mode to make the revenues of the Corporation most productive, &c. "The ideas of gentlemen so appointed will most probably be what will meet the approbation of the Council and Commons, and from them such resolutions can be formed, to be referred to the Commons as will carry them into effect, by which they think the subject can be better · digested. " The same Committee will have it in their power to consider any other of the matters contained in the report, in which the Council can interfere and give their opinions. The Chamberlain says he will make it appear by his Books, to any Committee appointed by the Council and Court, that a credit is therein given for the quarter's advance on the Tolls." Ordered, that the materials on the ground between the late James Lee's house and that of James Gregg, Esq., be sold by auction, on such day as the Mayor, &c., shall appoint. It., that the three lots of ground fronting Patrick Street, between the house of the late James Lee and the dwelling-house of James Gregg, Esq., be sold by auction for a term of 100 years, and that the taker of each lot shall in addition to the rent pay a fine of 50 guineas, and that the Mayor, &c., execute a lease to the taker of each lot; It., that the materials of the old houses in Castle Street, from Mr. Nicholson's house to Mr. Shaw's new buildings, be sold by auction on the Exchange.
