several of them in public places in this City, and at Cove, Passage, &c., to prevent persons from pretending ignorance ; 131Y, he shall collect from any ship, bark, or vessel exceeding 20 tuns (which do not belong to a Freeman of this City,) who shall lay themselves to clean or grave in any place below high water mark 2s. 6d., and forbid all other persons from claiming said duties, and give notice to the Mayor of any who do; 14 1Y, he shall keep an exact account of any money he shall disburse for Poles, Perches, or Buoys, removing any stones, &c., which he shall see dangerous to the navigation of this river, that same may be allowed him out of the dues collected, on stating his accounts, which he shall answer on oath; 15Iy, he shall collect all such dues as are expressed in the foregoing resolutions ; 16Iy, his Deputies shall be liable to conform to those resolutions and observe them; 171Y, he shall at his own cost provide and keep in repair a boat to enable him to go through his duty on water, for which £10 yearly shall be allowed him; 18Iy, he and his Deputy shall duly observe and obey all such orders, &c., as shall be delivered them in writing by direction from the Mayor and Council ; 191y, whoever shall be placed in this office shall be allowed one fourth part of the real produce of all dues he shall collect, together with the whole fees for serving any warrants, &c., and he shall have no right, title, &c., to demand any greater salary by virtue of any former right or title ; 20th, he is to pass accounts monthly, or as often as required by such as may be appointed to examine them by the C. D. H. or by the Mayor and Council, and pay the balance to the Chamberlain; 21st, he shall take care that the Mayor's dues be collected without any rewards or charges to be paid by the Mayor. And further, that the foregoing rules be binding on ~the person to be elected W aterbailiff, and in case the person elected be remiss or negligent in his duty, that the Mayor, &c., remove him from his office, on condition that the C. D. H. shall be duly assembled within eight days after, and have notice that they are to proceed to elect another person to serve as Water- bailiff. It., that a contract be entered into by the Mayor, &c., with Mr. Walter Hussey Fitton, cooper, to keep the coal barrels in repair for seven years for the yearly sum of £20, and completeng any additional number at one guinea and an half each barrel, and one guinea each half barrel, giving security, &c.
