NAMES OF STREETS TO BE PAINTED ON BOARDS ANIJ HOUSES NUMBERED. 1019

It., that the Mayor shall be at liberty to have the names of the different Streets, Lanes, and Alleys, Quays, and passages, painted on boards and put up in such manner as he shall approve of, in such parts of said streets as may be thought necessary by him, and the houses numbered ; and as a survey is now intended to be made of the City, it is further ordered, that proper names for such streets, &c., as have not been already named or im- P~l..~IlAl!!.E;_~2 shall be in like manner put up and adopted, and that the Mayor shall have power to confer and consult such persons as he shall think proper in the different parishes, in order that this undertaking may be more completely carried into execution, as a matter which will be in our opinion a great improvement to this City, and very useful to strangers who resort thereto. Present--Mr. Mayor, both Sheriffs; Alden. Wetherall, Baker, Webb, Travers, Lawton, Butler, Owgan, Sir J. Franklin ; Mr. Willcocks, and C. S. 22 June, 1787. Ordered, that the New Markets shall be flagged instead of paved, and that an advertisement be published in the Dublin, Cork, and Waterford ·papers, that proposals will be received by the Mayor, &c. ; they will require 1000 square yards of stone, which must be of a gritty quality, from 3 to 4 inches thick, that will not wear smooth ; the persons proposing must unde!'- tak:e to have them completely squared and laid by the first day of January next. It., .£1 lOs. 4d. to Francis Jackson, so much paid by him for refreshment for the officers of the Blackpool guard, by order of the late Mayor and Sheriffs. This day the' Mayor produced to the Council the apportionment which was yesterday made by him with the Commissioners for building the Bridge over the Northem Channel of the river Lee, of the proportion of the costs for obtaining the Act for building said·Bridge, and other purposes relative to the City, which was to be paid by said Bridge, and which was yesterday settled at £800, carrying interest at 6 per cent. That JOHN HowARD, Esq., be presented with his freedom in a Silver box, a token of the very high respect they entertain .for and consider as due to his distinguished character, which has been so eminently conspicuouS for acts of the most uncommon benevolence and diffusive operation. i28-2
