AN ACT NECESSARY TO MAKE FREEMEN LIABLE TO GATEAGE TOLLS. 1015
a bye-law, that for the space of five years, from 29 Sep., all freemen shall be liable to Gateage tolls as non-freemen pay, which bye-law was referred to C. D. H., and whereas some doubt having arisen whether after confirma- tion by the C. D. H. an act of Parliament would not be necessary for carry- ing such bye-law into execution, and whereas by the setting of the Gateage Tolls in separate lots they now produce upwards of £2000 a year, and whereas the Mayor, &c., are of opinion that such Bye Law, if carried into execution, would have been of most material advantage, and contribute to improve and embellish said City by opening ways, passages, &c., therein, and ease the inhabitants of part of the taxes to which they are subjected; ordered, that the order of 9 June last be referred to the C. D. H., with an alteration therein that the commencement shall take place from 29 Sep. next after an act shall be obtained as herein after mentioned, and that £2000 of the produce of the Gateage Tolls shall be annually in the first place paid to the Mayor, &c., for the use of them and their successors, and that an act of Parliament be applied for to confirm same if it meets the approbation of the C. D. H., the expenses to be paid out of the Corporation revenues, but repaid to the Mayor, &c., out of the first produce of the Gateage Tolls after paying the Mayor, &c., the £2000 they are to receive ; It., that £57 13s. 9!d. be paid Will. Snowe, Esq., dec., be added to the Committee for carrying into execution the several statutes for supplying this city with water ; It., £635 to the Mayor, in addition to £365 appointed for him by C. D. H.; It., 15 guineas to Mr. Wm. Keyes, half a year's rent for the house wherein Mr. Henry Knight, chandler, lately dwelt; It., that the Revd. Archdeacon Robt. Austen be appointed receiver of the rents of the lands devised by the will of Thomas Deane, Esq. ; It., 5 guineas to Sir John Franklin, paid by him to Thomas Power for striking the average price of com during his Mayoralty, as directed by the act to be returned weekly to the collector.
