THE DINNERS GIVEN ANNUALLY BY THE MAYOR TO BE ABOLISHED.

Whereas by an order of the Common Council, 9 April, 1765, it was ordered, that each Sheriff should for the future be paid £50 for his trouble in the execution of his office, and whereas by several subsequent resolutions entered into by the C. D. H. it was agreed, that the dinners annually given by the Mayor, &c., on election and swearing day shall be abolished, and the money expended thereon, amounting to £200, be applied annually to the relief of ind~ent freemen and their families, and whereas the future Sheriff~ bei~g ~as;d oitl(ei~-proportion of the expense of such dinners, being £100, and the aforesaid annual sum granted to them in consideration of the expense they are at as of their trouble, and said court having requested that said annual sum of £50 he handed over to trustees agreeable to said resolution. Ordered, that said sum annually paid each Sheriff, shall be so paid to each Sheriff, that it may be applied by them in manner before mentioned, for the purposes agreed to in said resolution, being a charity which we highly approve of, and are of opinion that the Sheriffs cannot apply the money to a better purpose or more consonant to our intention of granting same ; It., that the Mayor, Ald. Rowland and Butler be a committee for inspecting tradesmen's accounts; It., 14s. 9d. to Mr. John Bass, the expense he was at repairing a breach in his house occasioned by taking down a wall on the market ground; It.,that a Bond heretofore passed by the Mayor, &c., for £400 to be taken up, and that £100 of the principal be paid off to Hans Stewart, Esq., to whom sai<l Bond was passed, and that a new bond be passed by the Mayor for the principal sum of £300 with interest at 6 per . cent. from the date of said bond. Present-Mr. Mayor, Sher. Waggett and Allen; Alden. Wetherall, Row- land, Travers, Butler, Lawton, Owgan, Kent ; Mr. Izod, and C. S. 23 Feb., 1787. Whereas the Mayor, &c., issued a Proclamation offering a reward of £50 for prosecuting to conviction the persons who posted notices on the Lodges /of James Bernard, Richd. D. Newenham and Henry Browne Hayes, Esq., to X extort money in the name of Capt·--~~t. . Ordered, that the aforesaid reward, in case any person be entitled thereto, shall be paid.
