OUTRAGES COMMITTED BY THE WHITEBOYS.
14 Dec., 1786. - Whereas the persons stiling themselves Whiteboys or Right Boys still ~ continue to commit outrages, notwithstanding the means taken to prevent f them, now we, the Mayor, &c., do declare that we are determined in exerting every effort in our power to suppress such disturbances, and restore peace to all within our jurisdiction, and for the better effecting this, rewards will be paid by the Mayor, &c., for such information, so that the of[enders may be brought to condign punishment, and for the satisfaction of·· the persons disposed to give such information, the Mayor, &c., do pledge themselves to conceal their names, and it is ordered, that a sum not exceeding £300 be paid to the Mayor, &c., as occasion shall require; It., £32 1s. 3d. to the Mayor for glazing the West opes of the Exchange. Present-Saml. Rowland, Mayor; Christ. Waggett and Christ. Allen, Sheriffs; Rowd. Morrison, C. S. 29 Dec., 1786. Ordered, that 10 guineas be paid the Mayor, Mr. Kellett, for the relief of fourteen Frenchmen cast away lately on this coast and to send them home ; It., that the acts at large be purchased and kept in the Town Clerk's office; · It., that parapet walls be built (pursuant to statute) on the quays, at each side of the potatoe Quay dock, and that the tenants, &c., of the houses and ground adjoining be served with notices signed by the Clerk of the Council to build the same, several lives having been lately lost for want thereof, it being a dangerous pass on dark nights ; It., that Miles Bleasby, who has been a long time confined at the suit of the Mayor, &c., be discharged. Present--Mr. Mayor, Sher. Allen; Alden. Wetherall, Butler, Lawton, Owgan ; Mr. Izod, and Morrison, C. S. 24 Jan., 1787. Whereas 18 Jan., 1787, the Mayor, &c., issued their proclamation, offering a reward of £20 and certain annuities to the persons who shall prosecute to oonviction the persons guilty of felonies and outrages mentioned in such proclamation, now we, the Mayor, &c., do hereby confirm the aforesaid Proclamation, and order that the rewards and annuities offered by the Mayor, &c., shall from time to time be paid to the persons who shall become entitled thereto; It., that Mr. Kent do buy 100 Barrels of coals.
