30 .Aug., 1782. That Anthony Lane, gent., Lieut. H. M. 32 Reg. of Foot, son of Anthony L., Esq., dec., late Town Clerk, be admitted a freeman. Ordered, that a Memorial to his Excellency the Lord Lieut. be prepared ... / by the Town Clerk, in the name of the Mayor, &c., praying a convoy for ~ the Coal ships bound from England to this Harbour. Present-Mr. Mayor, Sher. Hutchinson; Alden. Philpott, Wrixon, Maylor, Baker, Travers, Lawton, Carleton; Burgess Izod, Morrison, Rowland, and Mr.C.S. 16 Sep., 1782. ~ That the Rt. Ron. the Earl of Charlemont be presented with his freedom " in a gold box, and also Admiral Lord Rodney in a gold box. ' Present-Mr. Mayor, Sher. Dumas·; Alden~ Philpott, Wetherall, Wrix_on, Maylor, Webb, Travers, Butler, Lawton, Owgan, Harding, Carleton ; Mr. Kent, M. E., and .r. Shaw, C. S. 21 Sep., 1782. This day, Mr. Mayor, Mr. Sheriff Thompson, and Lindsay, were sworn Common Council men. Ordered, that the Mayor do provide 100 barrels of coal; It., that the Corporation bond for £500 be passed to John Fitton, Esq., payable 12 months from 12 Oct., inst., interest free for that time, being the Corporation proportion of £1500 awarded to said Fitton by the Corporation and other proprietors of the Pipe Water, in consideration of said Fitton's performing his part of the covenants and conditions mentioned in a certain award made and published on said 12 Oct., by the arbitrators appointed on behalf of the Corporation and said Fitton, in suits depending between them.
