PENALTIES FOR NOT KEEPING THE MARKETS CLEAN.
Present-~fr. Mayor, Sher. Busteed and Pick; Alden. Wetherall, Wrixon, Butler, Owgan, and Mr. Dumas, C. S. 28 .Aug., 1780. Ordered, that the Gateage and other tolls be set, &c. (terms as before). It., that a posting be put up in the Exchange for electing a Water Bailiff for one year, his salary to be £60 (duties and security as before). Whereas the several Markets of this City are not kept clean by the persons taking the same, notwithstanding the covenants in their leases ; ordered, that the several persons taking the said Markets shall at the time of the cant deposit the ·sums hereafter to be held by the Mayor, on the fol- lowing conditions, to wit : That if the persons taking a Market shall neg- lect to keep it clean, then the Mayor shall employ persons as often as the case shall happen to clean said Market, and pay the expenses out of the deposit, and at the end of the year the Mayor shall return to each person such part of the deposit as shall not be expended, and that the deposit be as follows :-For the Corn Market, 3 guineas; For the Root Market, 4 guineas ; For the North Milk Market, 3 guineas ; For the South Milk Market, 2 guineas; For the North Shambles and standings, 3 guineas; For the South Shambles and standings, 2 guineas; For the Fish Market, . 4 guineas; For the Fowl Market, 4 guineas ; For the Blackpool Market, 2 gumeas. • Present-Mr. Mayor, Sher. Ordered, that John Harding, Esq., shall have liberty to take in 17 square feet from the Potatoe dock, at the South West end thereof, in order to deposit the dung and sweeping of his own quay, and for keeping same clean; It., that 3 guineas be paid to Norris Ballard for six months attend- ance at the Mayor's Office in the Exchange; It., that the dwelling-house
