THREE SENTINELS TO TAKE CARE OF THE CITY GAOL.
Present--Mr. Mayor Sher. Lawton and Purcell; .Alden. W estropp, Millerd; Bury, Wetherall, Wrixon, Maylor, Webb, Rowland, Travers, Owgan; Mr. Browne, Izod, Morrison, and Pick, C. S. 9 Feb., 1779. Ordered, that Mr. Kent, City overseer, buy 100 barrels of coal; It.,- that £6 6s. be paid Mr. Wm. Maturin, for newspapers ; It., that £25 5s. 7 ~d. be paid the Sheriffs, expenses of provi.ding three sentinels to take care of the City gaol in the absenc_e of the army, and removing six prisoners on a suit of H. 0. Resolved, that this Board will not for the future make any order for payment of money for the removal of prisoners from the City Gaol to Dublin, on writs of H. 0. It., that .Ald. Travers, Mr. John Harding and . Mr. John Franklin, burgesses, be appointed scavengers during the pleasure of this board, to sweep the Main Street from North to South Gate, the North and South Bridge, in manner following, to wit, to be swept one day and the dung, &c., cttrried away the day following, and that the Scavengers shall forfeit lOs. English for any day they shall omit to have said streets and bridges swept, also a similar penalty for neglecting to carry away the dung, &c. ; also a like penalty shall be paid by any person who shall interrupt said Scavengers, or shall carry away any of the dung. That Thomas Moore, Esq., son of Henry M., mercht., dec. ; James Gray Ruddock, gent., second sonJ of Francis G., Esq. ; Aylmer Allen, brewer; Thomas Oliver, gent., Clerk to the Collector of the Port of Cork ; Bartholo- mew O'Donnoghue, mercht., having served John Coughlan, do., be admitted freemen at large. It., that Hugh Millerd, Jun., Esq., be appointed Scavenger to sweep the street from South .Gate Bridge to the Weigh-house in Bandon Road, and from thence to Gallows Green lane, and from South Bridge to the East end 'Y. of Blackmoore lane, and to the turn to Cove lane, under the penalties as --.... above. It appearing to this Board that Eliz. Walsh, widow, who holds Stall N°. 27 in the English Shambles, and which was taken by her late husband at the weekly rent of 6s. 6d., is in poor and indigent circumstances, ordered, that said Elizabeth shall have an abatement of 3s. 3d. of said rent.
