PROTEST AGAINST THE BRIDGE AS INJURIOUS TO TRADE.

" I dissent to the oruer of Council for applying to Parliament for building the Bridge, I am of opinion it would be of infinite disadvantage to a con- siuerable part of the trade of this City, and would render almost useless above threefourths of the quays, where colliers and other vessels generally lie, would materially injure in their trade and properties·all the inhabitants of Mallow and Blarney lanes, the Main street from the North to the South Gate, and all the Western parts of the City." "I also dissent to the applying for local taxes on wine, brandy,. Geneva, oranges, !emmons, herrings, salt, balk, deal boards, wheel carriages, &c., a.s the inhabitants too justly complain of the heavy taxes they already labour unuer, as the late mode is peculiarly heavy on the middling and lower sort of people, and I an1 of opinion the Council ought not to apply without the approbation of the Body Corporate, and without such the seal of the City ought not to be affixed to their instrument of application.-Tho. Browne." Present-Mr. Mayor, Sher. Berry ; Alden. W estropp, Millerd, Franklin, Smith, Maylor, Baker, Webb; Mr. Browne, Denroch and Izod, 17 Dec., 1773.
