"l'HE NEW BARRACKS TO HOLD FOUR REGIMENTS OF INFANTRY.

That half a guinea be paid Mr. Mayor for the man that discovered and gave notice of the Council Chamber being on fire. Present-Mr. J.Iayor, Sher. Rowland and \Villcocks; AlJen. Owgan, Wes- tropp, WriX.on, Busteed, Philpott, Swete, Franklin, John Wrixon, Travers, and Browne. 2 May, 1766. Whereas new Barracks are to be built in this kingdom, and the old ones either rebuilt or repaired, and as it appears to this Board that it will be highly useful to his Majys. service, and peace of this City, to have four regi- -- ments of Infantry constantly in Garrison in Cork, ordered, that a memorial in the name of the Mayor, &c., be sent to the Lo. Lieut., praying that the Barracks of this City may be so rebuilt as to hold four regiments of infantry. .That .£20 1s. 9d. be paid Ald. Travers for maintaining several begging children that he took up in this City, to send to one of the Charter Schools in the country. -- - Whereas Ambrose Jackson, Esq., Ald., did expend of his own money £169 18s. 5d. to defend the rights of the Aldermen of the Ward, on appli- cation made against him by one Pinchin in the Court of King's Bench for an attachment, and whereas Ambrose Jackson, the oldest Ald., is become so infirm that he cannot execute hi.s office of Ald. of the Ward, and intends resigning it at next C. D. H., ordered, that an annuity of .£30 a year be paid said Ambrose Jackson during his life. Ordered, that Hugh Afillerd, Esq., and Mr. John Harding be appointed scavengers to sweep and cleanse Church lane, and the streets from the North Shambles to Peacock lane, and the dung and dirt to take away and dispose of as they think proper. Whereas the Rt. Hon. the Prime Sergt. wrote to Hugh Lawton, Esq., that he received under a blank cover one of the printed advertisements ]ately handed about this City for the meeting of the Merchants to consider some scheme for the relief of the poor in the time of scarcity, the Prime Serjt. had thereon laid the advertisement before the Lord Lieut., and requested his · Excellency would have the goodness to write to Bristol to have a quantity of wheat and flour, oats and oatmeal, shipped for Corke, to be sold to the ')< poor at moderate prices at the loss of Government, and his Excellency promised to write for same.
