APPLICATION FOR STEEL MOUNTED HANGERS FOR THE MILITIA.

And as Lieut.-Gov. Molesworth hath refused complying with the Mayor's directions, and wrote the Mayor a short letter in the following words : " 7 May, 1762. Sir,-In the present situation of the King's troops no guard can be mounted more than is already provided for the safety of the town. I am, Sir, your humble servt. " J. MOLESWORTH, Lt.-Govr. " To A. Franklin, Esq., Mayor of Cork." And as the refusal of Lieut.-Gov. Molesworth to mount a guard, pur- suant to his order from Government anJ Mr. Mayor's directions, appears to this board a high contempt of the orders of their Excellencies the Lords Justices, as of the civil authority, an attempt to set up Military power. in opposition to the Civil power in this City; ordered, that Mr. Hoare prepare a Memorial to the Lords Justices, setting forth the conduct of Lieut.-Gov. Molesworth, and praying redress. This board has been informed that about 700 steel mounted hangers are \in his Maj. Stores at Cork, where they remain useless; ordered, that appli- '--teation be made to Government for said hangers, for the use of the Militia of this City. Present--Mr. Mayor, Sher. Fitton and Morrison ; Alden. Jackson, Wes- tropp, Wrixon, Smith, Crone, Reily, Harding, Swete, Bury, Philpott, Busteed, Millerd, and Wm. Clark, jun., C. S. 14 May, 1762. No business for want of a sufficient number.-Wm. Snowe, Dep. Clk. of Council. Present--Mr. Mayor, Sher. Fitton and Morrison; Alden. Westropp, Wrixon, Millerd, Reily, Philpott, Bury, Harding and Winthrop. 26 May, 1762. Ordered, that Rich d. Knight, Esq., Commander of His Maj.'ship Liverpool, now stationed for the protection of the trade from Cork to Bristol, be pre- --! sented with his freedom in a Silver box. \' That Ralph Dore, mercht., having served George Johnson, mercht. ; Joseph Heard, clothier, eldest son of Joseph Heard, skinner, dec., be admitted free- men at large.
