728 A LIFTING BRIDGE BETWEEN PRINCES STREET AND LAVIT'S ISLAND.
Sr. Rol.}. Deane, Bart., Philip Oliver, Esq., and Councillor French, members of the H. C. and Freemen of this City, to support the said memorial. ResolvCll, that it is the opinion of this Board that it would be of use to the S. E. liberties and suburbs of this City, and to the inhabitants of Duns- combe's Marsh, that a lifting wooden bridge be erected over the Channel between Princes Street and Lavit's Island, and a street opened thence of 26 feet wide in a line to the other Channel between said Island and the Red Abbey quay, and that a Stone bridge with five arches be erected over the other channel, in the centre arch of which stone bridge a lifting wooden passage be made, so that in each channel there may be full room and navi- gation for ships and boats to pass and repass through said bridges, and we are of opinion that by erecting said bridges a short passage would be opened to the Corn Market of this City for corn coming from the S. E. parts of the City and County to the great easement of the narrow passage of South Bridge on Market days, and we consent to the erecting of said bridges, pro- vided the persons undertaking the same do erect the Bridges at their own expense, and give security that they be kept in constant repair without any charge on the Corporation in particular or City in general It is the opinion of this Board that Tuckey's Lane, in the S. E. quarter of this City, is a passage for carriages with merchants' goods, and for carriages and horses coming with goods to this City from the country, that the passage through said lane is so narrow at present that the lives of H. M. subjects are endangered, and that it would be advantageous to the trade of this City to have said passage widened by pulling down the houses adjoining said lane on theN. side, from the main street to Tuckey's quay, and whereas Timothy Tuckey, Esq., Doctor of Physic, and others interested in said houses, have refused a reasonp.ble compensation, Resolved, that Mr. Hoare prepare a petition to Parliament to bring in a bill for ascertaining such compensation, and that said Tuckey and others interested be served with notice of said intended application. Present-Mr, Mayor, Sher. Franklin and Connor ; Alden. Atkins, Jack- son, Parker, Owgan, Westropp, Crone, Wrixon, Busteed, Harding, Philpott, Farren, Fuller, and Reily. 16 Dec., 1759. That the Corporation Gallery in Christ Church be removed to the North
