CONTUMELIOUS CONDUCT OF CAPTAIN ROBERT JEPHSON.

That £3 be allowed Mr. Wm. Johnson out of the rent of the house he took from the Corporation, near the Guard-house, said Johnson not having possession of said house pursuant to the time mentioned in his lease. That 1000 copies of the oath of a Freeman be immediately printed and distributed to the Freemen. That £12 be paid Messrs. Wm. Snowe and John Terry, Coroners. for 12 inquests. Present-1.Ir. Mayor, both Sheriffs ; Alden. Farren, 1.1illerd, Crone, Reily ; Mr. Rickotts, C. S., (aftds.) Ald. Westropp, Harding, Busteed. 19 Dec., 1758. That £6 2s. 1 Od. be paid Ald. Reily for prosecuting Alex. English for a breach of his recotinizance, taken before Ald. Reily, for keeping the pence in this City. That Francis Carleton, Esq., Receiver of the rents of Bretriugc's Alms House, pay the Trustees of the Green Coat Hospital £50, two year's sur- plus to 29 Sept. of the rents of said Alms-house, after providing for the old men, said surplus being granted by the will of Capt. Bretriuge, for the use < f said Hospital, and that the receiver of said rents do for the future pay over annually said surplus to said Trustees. Whereas llr. Mayor directed an order to the· Commanding officer of the Fort near Cove to give a detachment of soldiers to aid the civil officer in arresting some persons in the town of Cove charged with felony, which order was delivered to Capt. Robt. Jephson, commanding said Fort, who refused to obey it, and in a very contumelious manner declared he would wipe his britch with twenty such orders; ordered, that a Memorial be laid --i before the Government, complaining of the misbehaviour of said Capt. Jephson. Present-Mr. Mayor, Sher. Parks ; Aid•. Atkins, Jackson, Farren, Reily, Harding, Philpott, Crone, W rixon, Westropp, and Busteed. 23 Jan., 1759.
