606 A~ EXPUESS THAT FRE~CII PniYATEERS WERE ON THE WEST COAST.

Jlotato ~Iarkcts to be built thereon, and report the expenses of building a Guard House at the North Shambles and convenient place for same. That Thos Browne, mercht., having served Robt. Travers, Esq., be admitted a freeman at large. That the two old boats belonging to the Corporation be sold by Public Cant, on the Exchange, by the Waterbailiff or his Deputy. Present-Mr. Mayor, Sher. Roe; Alden. Atkins, Croker, Jackson, Farren' llradshaw, Owgan, Westropp, Wrixon, Busteed, Smith, Reily, (afterwards) Ald. Taylor and Crone, (afterwards) Ald. Millerd and Ald. Austin. 16 Nov., 1756. That Sheriff Roe have the benefit of the dung from North to South Gate, he collecting and keeping the streets clean. That Mr. Hoare prepare a proper state of the case of the several com- panies of trades of this City, and lay same with their several Charters and "~?ye-laws before the Recorder and such other lawyers as he shall see proper, in order that said Companies may be put on a right footing for establishing a regular method of recovering their Quarterage. That £11s.10d. be paid Mr. Mayor, so much by him paid the express from the West with an account of some French privateers being on the coast. Ordered, that the Petty customs gathered for standing in this City be set to public cant on 1 Dec. next, for one year, subject to the following restric- tions: viz., that no fuel, faggots, straw, sedge, fowl, butter _in baskets, eggs, &c., which are drawn or carried through the public streets for the use of the inhabitants, in a moveing posture, and not unladen or pitched in the public streets in order to be there sold, shall be liable to pay for pitching or standing, unless the same are really pitched in said streets and remain an incumbrance there at least half an hour, or until sold ; and also that no pigs killed in the country, or hawked about the streets of this City on cars or horses' backs for sale, nor any leather, skins, wool, hoops, twigs, brooms, oysters, scollops, barley, oats, and such like goods as are drawn in order to be sold before same shall be pitched, shall be liable to pay for standing in said streets, unless the same be actually unladen and pitched for sale or remain an encumbrance on said streets at least half an hour. The aforesaid restrictions to be inserted in the lease.
