REFUSAL TO PAY QUARTERAGE.

S., also the Recorder as adviser of the Council. 7 Oct., 17 54. George Hodder, Esq., Mayor. This day Mr. Mayor, Mr. Smith, and Mr. Wetherall, Sheriffs, were sworn Council men. That Alden. Croker, Owgan, Wrixon, and the two Sheriffs be a Committee to view the ground near the Court house belonging to Mr. Roche, and to have a plan drawn, and report, to meet Coun. Smith and know on what terms he would set the old Assembly house and part of the Bowling Green, and report. That £11 9s. 7d. be paid Walter Palliser for English Newspapers supplied, from Mich., 1753, to M.ich., 1754. Present-Mr. Mayor; both Sheriffs; ...t\Jden. Atkins, Austin, Croker, Jackson, Owgan, Westropp, Lavit, Taylor, Millerd, Wrixon, Busteed, Sr. John Freke, and Mr. Parks, C. S. 14 May, 1755. Whereas the Popish quarterers of the several trades of this City have of late refused to pay quarterage, ordered, that Mr. Hoare prepare a case and attend the Recorder with same, to have his opinion in what manner said quarterage for the future can be legally recovered. That £4115s. ll!d. be paid Thos. Clements for Mason's work done from 22 June, 1754, to 1 Feb., 1755; also £24 15s. to Andrew Dalton, for Carpenters' work done from 27 July, 1754, to 5 April last; also £34 2s. 8d. to John Fish, for iron work supplied from 27 Oct:, 1753, to 29 Oct., 1754; also £38 Os. lO!d. to Walter Lavit, Esq., for timber from 4 Oct., 1753, to 4 April, 1755; also £19 12s. 6d. to Jehosaphat Huleat, for sundries from 28 Mar., 1754, to 6 Nov. last; also £11lSs. 6d. to Mrs. Esther Holmes, for cloathing for the Blue Coats and Exchange Porter, 6 Sep. last; also £2 lOs.
