A .RIOTOUS AND WICKED MOB IN THE CITY.

Ordered, that the Chamberlain pay Mr. George Hodder .£36 17 8. ld. for cleaning and mending the maces, and for nine ailver boxes and one gold • box for the Corporation, to 14 Aug. last. That Mr. John Ireland be paid .£14 88. 1d., for iron work for the use of the Corporation to 20 Jan., 1752. Present--Mr. Mayor, both Sheriffs; Alden. Atkins, Croker, Jackson, Farren, Newman, Westropp, Winthrop, Lavit, Millerd, Wrixon, Taylor; Mr. Travers, also the Uec01·der as adviser of the Council, afterwards Ald. Crone. 6 April, 1753. That Mr. Mayor issue a Proclamation promising a reward of .£5 to any person who shall convict any one who molests or disturbs the country people in bringing in their corn, potatoes, or other provisions to this City. Whereas a riotous mob assembled in this City on Thursday, 5 April, to the great terror of the country people who supply the markets of this City with provisions, and as we apprehend the country people will refrain sending their potatoes, &c., to the Market of this City, but will carry them to other places, ordered, that the Mayor issue a proclamation promising a reward of .£10 to such person as shall convict the promoter of said riotous mob. Present--Mr. Mayor, both Sheriffs; Alden. Croker, Farren, Fuller, Wes- tropp, Winthrop, Lavit, Taylor, Wrixon, Busteed, also the Recorder 88 adviser of the Council. 18 April, 1753. Whereas a ~!lost riotous and wicked mob assembled in this City on 17 April and cruelly seized one John Sullivan of said City, porter, whom they carried through the streets of this City and unmercifully beat, wounded, bruised, and cut off one of his ears, which they affixed to the gate of Shandon Church, and left said Sullivan in the street 88 dead, Now we, the Mayor, &c., in just abhorrence of so cruel and barbarous a fact, and for curbing the insolence of such unruly mobs, do promise a reward of £50 for the convic- tion of the person who cut off said Sullivan's ear, we also promise .£10 for the conviction of every other person concerned in said mob, and that any person who shall convict the person who cut off Sullivan's ear (except the
