It appears that the Mayor of this City hath been served with an order to show cause why he should not be attached in His Maj. Court of King's Bench at the prosecution of Richard Ell, a soldier, for committing him to .Bridewell, and as it appears that the Mayor committed said Ell for exposing his child in one of the streets of this City to become a public charge, and that the Mayor acted for the public good, and if he committed an error it was one of judgment, ordered, that the expenses the Mayor be put to be paid out of the Corporation revenues. Present-Mr. Mayor, both Sheriffs ; Alden. Huleattt Croker, Jackson, Farren, Fuller, Parker, Owgan, Westropp, Crone, Wrixon, Winthrop, and Smith, C. S.; the Recorder being present as an adviser of the Council. 8 May, 1752. This day the Council met at ten in th.e forenoon to make several persons free who have a right to their freedom, and Ald. Hugh Millard, Jun., who gave in a large number of petitions for Freedoms, having come into the Council .room, and as we apprehend, on finding that by his staying there would be a full Council to do business, immediately withdrew, and no other member of Council attending, the members were obliged to break up, and could not go on business. Present-Mr. Mayor, both Sheriffs; Alden. Croker, Farren, Owgan, Wes- tropp, Winthrop, Lavit, Holmes, Wrixon, and Smith, C. S. 13 May, 1752. Ordered, that Benj.
