652 THE RIVER NEAR SPIKE ISLAND IN THE LIBERTIES OF THE CITY.

30 Jan., 1748. Not a sufficient number, &c.-Robt. Hoare, Clk. Col. Present-Mr. Mayor; Alden. Atkins, Croker, Fuller, Owgan, Lavit, Win- throp ; Mr. Dring. 15 Feb., 1748. Ordered, that the Clerk of the Council wait on the Recorder and desire l1im to draw an address from this City to His MajY. on his happy return to His British dominions, and on the conclusion of the Peace. Present-Mr. Mayor, Sher. R.!ily_; Alden. Croker, Owgan. Westrop, Lavit, Millerd, Jun. ; Mr. Dring, and Skeys, C.. S. 20 March, 1748. That Robt. Marshall, Esq., Sarjt at Law, one of the Judges of Assize, be presented with his freedom in a Silver box. That Thos. Pace, having shot Giles Phillips with a musquet-ball, from on . board the Olive Tree sloop, within the harbour of Corke, near Spike Island,. for which Pace has been indicted and has traversed said indictment in the City, and in case he should be demanded from the Sheriffs of the ·City, they are not to give him up, said river being in the liberties of the City, and if there be occasion for Council, Mr. Hoare, the agent, shall employ Council to support the Sheriff, and in case Ald. Parker, who took the examinations against Pace, be put to any expense, it shall be paid out of· the revenues of the City. That the Mayor and Council, as trustees to Brettridge's Hospital, do agree to set for the term of seven years all the interest they have in the .coalpits on the lands of Dromcummer to William :F1eming, miner, he to be at all expense in raising the coal or culm, to deliver one third part on the surface free and clear of all expence in consideration of the aforesaid liberties given him, and that Ald. Newenham is desired to agree with said Flemming pur- suant to the aforesaid scheme, in which shall be contained a power for said· Newenham to stop his proceeding in case he don't perform his agreement. That Robt. Atkins' bill for Beer, £10 8s., be paid. ·That Elias Maneduke's bill, £1113s. 11d., for clothes for the Corporation Servants, be paid. Present--Mr. Mayor, Sher. Reiley, Recorder; Alden.
