THE SHERIFFS INSULTED BY LIEUT. FITZ GERALD.

and to apprehend a gang of thieves and robbers with which this City hath of late been infested, were, about 3 or 4 of the clock this morning assaulted, wounded, and falsely imprisoned in the execution of their office, without any provocation, by Robt. Fitz Gerald, a Lieutenant in the. Honl. Gen. Otto- way's Regt. of Foot, and then Capt. of the Main guard ; and also, that John Reily, Esq., one of the Sheriffs of said City, who attended Mr. Mayor on that occasion, in order to preserve the peace, which was greatly disturbed by said FitzGerald and his associates, was in the presence of the Mayor in- sulted and grossly abused, and threatened by said Fitz Gerald. Ordered, that a Memorial be immediately laid before the Government, in the name of the Mayor, &c., to have said Fitz Gerald brought to justice. Present--Mr. Mayor, both-Sheriffs; Alden. Millerd, Huleatt, Croker, Farren, Jackson, Winthrop, Lavit, Taylor, Millerd, Jun.; Mr. Dring, and Mr. Skeys, C. S. 4 Nov., 1748. The Memorial of the 2 inst. was read and approved, with the alteration that it should be preferred to the Lords Justices, in the name of the Mayor, &c., and sent to Mr. Croker by this night's post, to have it laid. before the Lords Justices without delay.
