FRAUDS COMJIITTED BY TILE COLLECTOR OF CUSTOMS.

1 Oct., 1746. This day Mr. George Godfrey, C. S., as such, took the oath of a Common Council :Man. That £20 ISs. 2~d. be paid to Robt. Hoare, Esq., bill of costs in the cause of Bodkin against Ald. Winthrop and Mr. Burgess Philpott. That £14 7s. 11d. be paid Ald. Croker, his expenses in travelling to Dublin to give his testimony before the House of Lords on a complaint made by the late Lord Bishop of Corke and Ross against Ald. Fuller and Ald. Parker for a breach of priviledge in quartering soldiers in the manor of S. Finbarries. That £15 11s. ld. be paid Ald. Austin, his expenses .to Dublin on the account mentioned in the foregoing order : Whereas there is reason to apprehend that several frauds have been com- mitted by the under Collector of the Customs and Gateage of this City, ordered, that they be immediately removed from their respective offices, and that others, of the Protestant religion, be put in their stead, giving security for £20 for discharge of their offices. Whereas Mr. John Kennedy, agent for ·the Mayor, &c., in their suit against Ald. Fuller and others, did draw a bill of Exchange for £50 for defraying charges of extracting copies of depositions, feeing Lawyers, &c., which bill was protested for non payment, and afterwards paid under protest for the honour of the drawer, and as an order of Council of 20 Jan. last was made for paying said sum, and as said Kennedy since hath furnished this board with his bill of costs, amounting to £97 4s. 10!d. The question being put whether said sum of £97 4s. 10!d. be paid or not, there being 12 votes for and 4 against., ordered, that said bill be dis- charged. That £26 15s. 2d. be paid Mr. Sher. Bruce for wine, &c., by him furnished to the Corporation on meeting to celebrate the success obtained by His Royal Highness the Duke of Cumberland against the Rebels in Scotland at the Battle of Culloden on 16 April last. That £16 16s. be paid Ald. Atkins for 21 Barrells of ale given to the army on several rejoycing days, from 20 Jan. to 30 April last inclusive. \ That £15 lOs. 4d. be paid :Mr. Frans. Austin for liveries furnished to the Blue Coats and Exchange Porter 12 Sep., 1745.
