1 May, 1745. Whereas J\fr. l\fayor and Mr. Sher. Philpott have been served with a common law subprena at the suit of Richd. Bodkin, on account of sending said. Bodkin to gaol for giving insolent language to them ; ordered, that the expenses of said suit be defrayed out of the revenues of the Corporation. The persons appointed to inspect the public accounts having drawn up a remonstrance, in which were these words included in a parenthesis (which we apprehend to be contrary to the Bye-Laws, and therefore to remedy such inconveniences some method should be taken to prevent the same in future); the question being put whether said words shall be expunged or not out of said remonstrance, carried in the affirmative. That the Chamberlain pay the several sums of money heretofore ordered to sundry persons, notwithstanding the orders of Council for said sums have been read but once iu the C. D. H. Present-Mr. Mayor, both Sheriffs, Mr. Recorder; Alden. Atkins, Austin, Croker, Jackson, Farren, Newman, Fuller, Parker, Owgan, W estrop; Mr. Carre, Travers, Dring, and Browne. Whereas it appears that the Town Clerk's office is not sufficient for keeping the Records thereof, ordered, that a floor be made over the Petty Jury Room, and that a passage into the same be made from the Musick Gallery, the upper part to be made fit for keeping the said Records, anJ that Jehoshaphat Huleatt, overseer of the public works of this City, do oversee said work. That £450 be borrowed from Adam Newman, at £5 for one hundred by the year, towards discharging debts due to sundry persons by the Corpo- ration. It appears by the accounts of Mr. Joseph Francklyn, late Chamberlain, that he owes a ballance of £43 12s. 5ld.; ordered, that the bond which he gave for discharge of his office be lodged in the hands of Mr. Stephen Hopkins, present Chamberlain, to be delivered to said Francklyn on his paying said sum to Hopkins.
