A~ ANOXYMOUS LETTER FIXED ON MR. MAYOR'S HOUSE• . -----,

the use of the Militia of this City, said place to be put in proper order to receive them. Present-Mr. Mayor, Sir Richd. Cox, Mr. Recorder; Alden. Atkins,· l\1illerd, Austin, Croker, Fuller; Mr. Carre, Dring, Browne, and Mr. C. S. 28 Feb., 1744. Whereas an anonymous paper was about two days ago fixed up at Mr. Mayor's house and in other places of this City, whereby his Worship was highly menaced, which paper consists of false misrepresentations, and was published with intent to spirit up a mob and disturb the peace of this City, and whereas a mob did in consequence assemble on this present day in a riotous manner, and would have done great mischief to the inhabitants of this City had they not been prevented by the Civil power, aided by the Army ; now, to bring the author of said paper to Justice, ordered, that a Proclamation be immediately issued offering a reward of £20 to any person who, within the space of six months, shall discover and afterwards prosecute to conviction the author of said paper or the person who fixed it up, or any of their accomplices. That 5 guineas be paid the Mayor, to be by him distributed amongst the Army, for their trouble this day in suppressing the mob. Present-Mr. 1\.fayor, Sher. Philpott, Mr. Recorder; Alden. Atkins, Millerd, Croker, Fuller, Owgan, Westropp ; Mr. Dring, Browne, and Gaggin, 0. S. March 20, 1744. The Council were ordered to attend this day to consider what was to be done on account of the Commissioners of revenue having ordered the Measure made use of to be altered. The persons hereafter mentioned attended, to wit. Mr. Mayor, Sher. Philpott; Alden. Millerd, Crpker, Fuller, and no other, so for want of a sufficient number the Council could not be held.-Russell Wood, Clk. of Council. 30 March, 17 45.
