to be lodged in the Council Office on a hearing before said Council the 20 inst., on the petition of Hugh Dickson, Esq., in relation to the Election of a Uecorder for this City, ordered, that Mr. Mayor send the same up to the Privy Council, and that he be paid the expenses, &c~ J>resent-Mr. Mayor, Mr. Sheriff; Alden. Crone, Knapp, Allen, Terry, Ph. French, Ab. French, Morley, Cramer, Atkins ; Croker, Austin, and Fuller (postea), Ald. Phillips and Bennett. 14 June, 1728. It appears that the summons was given out 12 inst. to appear at 4 o'clock the afternoo~, on Friday following 14 inst., accordingly the undernamed members did appear and stayed for the Sheriffs till half an hour after six o'clock, and finding neither of the Sheriffs did think fit to appear, David Glass, one of the Sheriff's Bayliff's, was sent to find them, who declared he could not hear of them, it is further declared by the Mayor that his inten- tion was to choose a Recorder, if he could do it, and that the Mayor did issue out summons to the Council likewise on Sunday the gth., to have a Council the lOth., but the Sheriffs did not think fit then to appear. Present-The Mayor, Alden. Crone, Knapp, Delahoid, Allin, Ab. French, Ph. French, Morley, Terry, Broclesby, Bennett, Cramer; Mr. Addis, Austin, Croker, Fuller, Huleatt. 24 June, 1728. It appearing that Thomas Browne, Esq., Mayor of Corke, Georg.e Series, Yardley Lewis, and John Croneen were served with a subprena from His Maj. Court of Exchequer at the suit of Henry Purdon, Esq., ordered, that the Mayor do advise with Council in said suit, his expenses and that of his successor to be paid at the public expense, and that the Mayor write to Mr. Croker to that purpose. \ That the Mayor give directions for the clearing of the Navigation of the River, and license to such boats as he shall think proper to take up gravel, and if any of them shall be obstructed by any person that Mr. Mayor use proper means to redress them at the expense of the Corporation. That the Right Hon. Thomas, Earl of Londonderry, and John Pitman, Esq., Commander of His Maj. Ship Pearl, man of War, be presented with their freedom in silver boxes.
