for such freemen as will go to meet Mr. Sheriff Cramer and attend him to town, who was in Dublin on behalf of the Corporation to petition against the clause whereby Ald. Knapp and Hoare are appointed Weighmasters of the goods of this City. That the letter read this day in Council be signed by the 1\Iayor, Sheriffs, &c., and put the Common seal thereto, and send it to Bristol, Liverpool, and London, to petition against the clause relating to Ald. Speaker. 6 Dec., 1723. Whereas the Right Hon. House of Commons of Ireland, for the amend- ment of the Laws in relation to butter, tallow, beef, hides, &c., have passed a bill, whereby Ald. Edm. Knapp and Ald. Ed. Hoare, our two representa- tives in Parliament, being appointed Weighmasters for this City, without the least notice, We, the merchants of this City, apprehending thu.t tho trade thereof will suffer much thereby, and it appearing necessary to petition against said bill, and having employed agents and clerks for the manage- ment of an affair so great, Ordered, that the Mayor put the City Seal to instruments for raising a sum not exceeding £300, for the better prosecuting this Cities and Mer&hants' petition, and to reward the several persons for their trouble. That Sheriff Cramer and Mr. Will. Lane, the persons appointed to go to England with the petitions against the Weighmasters, be paid £60 each, and that 40s. be paid the clerks for their trouble in drawing several copies of the Act, petitions, letters, &c., relating to same. That a further sum of £20 be paid ~Ir. Sheriff Cramer and Wm. Lane toward their expenses, and to have credit for £158. Present-1\fr. Mayor, both Sheriffs; Alden. Crone, Delahoid, Phillips, Ab.
