A MODEL OF THE NEW EXCHANGE TO BE PROCURED.
21 Jan., 1705. Application by Ald. William Chartres to borrow 200li. from the Corpora- tion at 6 per cent. pe'r annum, promising to pay same at a mohth's notice, ordered, that the Chamberlain pay said Chartres said sum, William and his son entering into a bond to the Mayor, &c., for payment in three months. Present-Mr. Mayor, both Sheriffs; Alden. Crone, Chartres, French, Roberts, Morris, and Whiting; Mr. Walker, Mr. Browne. 4 Feb., 1705. Agreed, that there be a preparation made for building the New Exchange, and that a model be procured from an able artist; that if lead be cheap, ten ton be provided by Ald. Crone. Ordered, that the executors of Mr. Francis Rogers and other Quakers be paid the money by them lent to Alden. Ballard and Crone for the subsistence ofthe Army, deducting what is due to the Corporation from Saml. Randall, John Haman, and Richard Brockelsby, same to be allowed to the Chamber- lain on his account, amounting to 93 pounds, to wit, 50 pounds by three receipts to the executors of Francis Rogers, so much paid by himself, 43 pounds by one acquittance for money paid by Henry Whedon and Joseph Pike, which was by a contribution from several of their friends, out of which 40s. must be deducted, so much due to the Corporation for a year's tolera- tion before he became a freeman; 7li. lOs. Old. due from John Haman for rent, and 5li. 5s. from Samuel Randall for rent, so that 50 pounds be paid to the assignes of Francis Rogers and 28li. 4s. 11-ld. to Henry Wheddon and Joseph Pike, to be by them distributed to the persons who lent same. Ordered, that the .several stairs leading to the walls be taken down, and walls made across where occasion is to stop any going up the walls, to be overseen by the Chamberlain and Mr. Tho. Browne.
