That the keys of the City Chest be kept, one by the Mayor, another by the Recorder, or whom in his absence he shall appoint, the third by Ald. Crofts, as eldest Alderman residing. That the Mayor, &c., do settle what Mr. Wright shall be paid for Lieut.- Gen. Earle's lodgings, the Chamberlain to observe their orders. That Alden. Knapp, French, and Goddard, the Sheriffs and Town Clerk do audit the Chamberlain's account. · That Charles, son of Ald. Whiting, be admitted free g·ratis. That Ald. Knapp be .Ald. of the Ward instead of Ald. Crofts, who is a Justice of the Peace. Present--William Andrews, Esq., Mayor; Mr. Uecorder; Dant. Perdrian, Sheriff; Alden. Crofts, Crone, Chartres, Renew, Roberts, Goddard, Whiting, and Knapp ; Matthias Smith, Common Speaker; Mr. Walkcr, Mr. I>errie, Mr. Browne. 24 Oct., 1704. Resolved, that the freedom of this City be presented to the Hon 1• Wm. Whetstone, Esq., Rere-Admiral of the Blue Squadron, in a silver box. That the freedom of this City be also presented to the Commanders of the several men-of-war under the said Admiral's command now in this harbour. That Mr. George Wood, shopkeeper, be paicl 6 shill. per week for the lodgings of Coli. Pepper, amounting to 39s. Present-Mr. Mayor, Sher. Perdrian ; Alden. Ordered, that Charles Farrendine be paid for the quarters of the Lieut.- Gens. Aid-de-Camp 6 shillings per week for four weeks. That the Chamberlain pay Mrs. Susana Wright 9 pounds for the quarters of several persons of quality the last year, according to the certificate of the late 1-Iayor, &c.; also 4 guineas for a month's quarters for Lieut.-Gen. Earle.
