20 Oct., 1693. Ordered, that the 'Vaterbailiff's place be given this year unto the Sword- bearer for his sallary. That John Bell, on his petition, be admitted free during his residence, for the fine of 10 pounds. That 'Villiam Pembrock, paying 40s., be admitted a freeman. That William Ronaine, Town Clerke, have 5 pounds, half-year's sallary. That Ald. Newenham, paying a pepper-corne a-year, have liberty to make a foot-bridge from his back-house over the river to the fishambles. Present-The Mayor; Alden. Chartres, Dunscomb, Newenham, 'Vright, Alwin, Webber, Croue; Sher. French, Sher. Dringe; Mr. Ferrie, Mr. Terrie. 21 Nov., 1693. Ordered, that a gown and cap of maintenance be made for the Sword- bearer to wear when he shall bear the s'word. That the Chamberlain issue an order to the Customers of the Gateage of this Ciy for the payment of 32 pounds unto Consul Hill for the enter- taining the Judges four Assizes. Whereas several infringements on the privilidges of this Corporation anciently granted by Charter to be used on the water have been made by 1\fr. Thomas Farren, Judge of the Admiralty, and his under officers, It is agreed for the future, that if any such practices shall be used to debar us of our ancient right on the water within this harbour, that it be opposed at the public expense of this Corporation, and the Admiralty Officers so
