S. STEPHE~'s HOSPITAL IN A RUINOUS CONDITION. .

Present-Mr. Mayor, Sher. Jackson; Alden. Lawton, Owgan, Kingston, Harris, Puxley, Shaw, Thompson; Burgess Busteed, Bousfield, Leycester,· and Allen, C. S. 8 July, 1796. We, the Mayor, &c., do fix 2088 globe lamps as necessary for this City and· Suburbs (conditions of lighting, trimming, &c., as usual), and we fix £1 2s. 6d. for lighting, &c., each lamp, making the yearly sum of £2349, and we appoint William Bell, of the City of Dublin, merchaut, as lamp contractor, and giving security in the sum of £1000; It., that the late Lamp Contractors, Messrs. Popham and Alexander, forthwith hand over unto William Bell the Lamps, Lamp Irons, &c., in their hands, he giving a receipt for same. It appearing to this Board that the report of the Committee, 18 Sep. last, that S. Stephen's Hospital is in a most ruinous condition, and that the funds of said Hospital are insufficient without a great diminution of the . number of boys, o-rderecl, that a sum not exceeding £500 be paid to Jasper Lucas, Esq., Mayor, Sheriffs Jackson and Wood, C. S., Ald. Kingston, Harris, Shaw, and Thompson, Burgess Bousfield, .and Busteed, and Allen, late C. S., and those of the C. D. Ordered, that the thanks of this Council be presented to· Vice Admiral Kingsmill, for his indefatigable attention to our trade and to the defence of this Coast, and we deem ourselves much honoured by having his name already enrolled as a Freeman of this City, and tliat the foregoing resolution be signed by the Town Clerk, transmitted to Admiral Kingsmill, and pub- lished in the News Papers. · Present-Mr. Mayor, Sher.
