Scope and Content: Macartney writes that he sent Daniel extracts from Thomas Rymer's 'Foedera' yesterday [included] which he copied from an edition in the library of Trinity College Dublin. He offers to send Daniel a photograph of a portrait painting of Lord Macartney [George Macartney (1737 – 1806)], and encloses a photograph of a painting of Lissanoure [not included].

Scope and Content: Macartney thanks Daniel for his congratulations on being elected to the Royal Irish Academy [see letter dated 28 March 1870]. He asks when Daniel intends on coming to Ireland, as he is planning to leave Dublin in early June and stay in Seaport, Bushmills, County Antrim until September. Macartney suggests that Daniel visits him in north Antrim, and they could both then embark on a canvassing tour for the chieftainship from Youghal to Limerick.
