Scope and Content: Macartney writes that he has sent circulars to all of the Roman Catholic clergy named MacCarthy listed in 'Thom's Directory', and sends Daniel 101 circulars to sign. He also says that he completely agrees with Daniel's choice of a committee.

Scope and Content: Macartney sends Daniel 300 circulars to sign, and notes that he received no reply from the 37 circulars that he sent to various MacCarthys. He thinks this is because he is "unknown" and that circulars bearing Daniel's signature will be more likely to draw replies. He notes that D MacCarthy of Carrigaline, Cork has raised an objection to their project, stating that "men's minds are too occupied with political plans to attend to the proposal."

Level: file Extent: 2 letters (4pp), 1 list (2pp) Part of: PR70/B Scope and Content: Macartney forwards Daniel a letter he received from J McCarthy, "clerk of Union Listowel" dated 14 September, and writes his own letter to Daniel [dated 17 September] at the end of the original letter. J McCarthy writes in response to Macartney's circular and asks a number of questions about the history of the MacCarthy clan. Macartney also encloses a list of the MacCarthys and McCarthys included in the London Directory, 1869.
