Scope and Content: Macartney writes that he had a conversation at the office of the 'Nation' newspaper, and that the managers of the paper are "not favourable to our project possibly. I may be wrong." He says that he is not taking part in the "strife now current amongst us", that a political party in County Antrim had asked him to run for office and he replied that they should instead run a "tenant farmer candidate." He also mentions a "curious case" at the Royal Dublin Society, when a member forgot "he was no longer an infant, wet the floor ..."

Scope and Content: Macartney writes that when he received Daniel's last letter and address, his infant daughter had just died after a short illness. He has carefully read Daniel's address and thinks it is clear and convincing. He showed it to Robert Given of Coleraine "a great antiquary and he highly commended it."
