Scope and Content: Macartney writes that he "completely approves" of Daniel's article describing the sept system which featured in the 'Nation' newspaper. He suggests printing Daniel's article as a pamphlet and that his friend "Webb the bookseller of Sackville Street [O'Connell Street, Dublin]" would sell it. Macartney met Denis Florence MacCarthy yesterday and asked Denis "as bard of the sept" to sign an address in the pamphlet, along with the Red MacCarthy (Fineen) ["of Maynooth"], JJ McCarthy, and himself. Macartney feels the election of a MacCarthy Mor will encourage other sept to follow their example resulting in an eventual "Council of Chiefs ... and we will have a finer agitation that any thing since 1782."
