Scope and Content: Macartney writes that he is overjoyed at the Bishop of Kerry's [David Moriarty] letter [not included] [?in support of their proposal to elect a 'MacCarthy Mor']. Macartney suggests that a guard of the MacCarthy clan should be formed, in which he would be "proud to serve as one of the rank and file." He tells Daniel that he plans to return to Hatch Street, Dublin in November, and will call to Denis Florence MacCarthy "and further be at your disposal to aid the movement ..."

Scope and Content: Macartney writes that he fully concurs with Daniel's ideas for a council of MacCarthy Mor, listing a number of them: "homage, hereditary functions, presentation of the white rod, chancellor of the sept, inauguration ..." He also discusses the "great Protestant gathering at Hillsboro [Hillsborough Castle, County Down, 30 October 1867], which by the way I did not attend", describing it neither as a failure or success, and how he and others in his parish had planned a Catholic demonstration.

Scope and Content: Macartney encloses a letter from JJ McCarthy [?James Joseph McCarthy, architect] [letter not included], saying he agrees in the main with it except that Daniel should have the trouble and expense of sending copies of his book, 'The Life and Letters of Florence MacCarthy More' to parish priests in County Kerry. He suggests that the committee for electing a MacCarthy Mor should have this responsibility instead, and that he (and future committee members) would be happy to pay a subscription to cover such expenses. He also recommends that Daniel reads 'Notes on the Rubrics of the Roman Ritual' by Reverend James O'Kane.
