Scope and Content: Lyons thanks Daniel for sending a copy of the 'Four Masters' [?The Annals of the Kingdom of Ireland by the Four Masters …']. He says that he was in Togher yesterday for a funeral, and notes the following regarding the local people and rents: "I am sorry to say that the condition of our people is very sad. Great poverty and distress, no work for labourers, low prices, heavy debts, no credit. The universal feeling is that rents must be reduced, and some radical change made in the land question."

Lyons writes that he visited Togher Castle with a photographer who captured a number of views of the castle. He says that Daniel may order a number of the photographs if he is interested. He also notes that Bealnacarriga Castle would "cost very little" and is near a [train] station.
