Scope and Content: Gosling writes that he only received her letter dated 5 February, and Kate Pakenham's letter dated 7 February, and Daniel's letters today. He says that he would have written to her and Daniel directly, only that he thought that writing to Kate Pakenham would "lessen the blow coming through one with ... tact and kindness of heart ..." He discusses Henry's finances, his tomb and its inscription. He says he will send Henry's sword, and encloses two carte de visite photographs [not included. Possibly the following items: PR70/F/5/4] which he found in Henry's letters.

Scope and Content: Gosling writes that he just received Daniel's second letter. He notes that the sculptor is working on Rico's tomb and that he will ensure everything is satisfactory before settling the payment for the work. He says he did not write to Daniel before now because he knew Kate Pakenham and dear Lady Popham would know better than [he] how to break the ill news."

Scope and Content: Gosling writes regarding Rico's finances and says that the government would not let him keep Rico's sword to send to Daniel, but he thinks they will send it themselves. He also notes that Rico's tomb is being built and that he hopes to have it photographed for Daniel.
