Scope and Content: Daniel writes how gratifying it has been to learn that Rico's "brother officers" intend to erect a tomb over his remains. He thanks Gosling on behalf of himself and his son Florence, for his assistance. Letter also includes a transcription of Gosling's letter to [Kate] Pakenham dated 10 March 1865.

Gosling encloses a drawing of the tomb which is to be erected over Henry Popham MacCarthy's grave. He says that Henry died without leaving a will and discusses his remaining debts and finances. He notes that the Catholic Bishop of Madras, Dr [John] Fennelly has waived the fee for the plot in the cemetery. File includes a memorandum of sums listing depts owed by Henry at the time of his death, and copies of this memorandum, the letter, and the drawing by Daniel MacCarthy.
