Scope and Content: O'Neill Daunt thanks Daniel for sending the pamphlet on the "southern septs" and discusses his fondness for the Irish language, and his brother's particular skill at speaking it. He discusses a book Daniel sent him and corrects some of the assertions made in it about Phale Castle, Ballineen village, and Ballymoney Church. He also corrects the details regarding several pedigrees in the book, including that of Daniel O'Connell, "the Liberator".

Scope and Content: O'Neill Daunt asks Daniel for Richard F Cronnelly's address so he can purchase the second part of his 'Irish Family History'. He says he will send Daniel a copy of the 'Nation' newspaper [dated 11 November 1865] which includes the text of a speech he gave at a recent [Irish] National League meeting in Dublin. He says that he suspects that Daniel's political views are similar to his own and asks if he would like to become a member of the Irish National League. If so, he tells Daniel to send a subscription to the League's president John Martin, Kilbroney [House], Rostrevor, County Down.
