Scope and Content: Caulfield writes that he has just returned from London where he visited the British Museum and the Heralds' College [?College of Arms], and found much material relating to the MacCarthys. He recommends that Daniel sends a copy of the 'Life and Letters of Florence MacCarthy Reagh ...' to the British Museum.

Scope and Content: Caulfield writes that he has arranged for Daniel's letters and manuscripts to be bound into a folio volume, saying that he "now hopes that the papers are safe for all time." These include letters from John O'Donovan from 1845 to 1857. He notes that the final letter in the volume is from John O'Donovan's son, Edmund, mentioning the death of his father. Caulfield adds that he has not included the letter from Edmund in which he discusses being sent to Limerick Gaol for being a Fenian.

Scope and Content: Caulfield writes that Daniel's volume of letters from John O'Donovan should be returned from the binders by next Thursday. He says that his wife and his "usual Sunday walks" have been impeded by Land League meetings "in all quarters", and that "you would meet a most ill looking set of fellows on the roads." He discusses Togher Castle and says that Daniel was "fortunate in not settling down" there.
