Scope and Content: Caulfield again discusses Daniel's bronchitis and describes Ballinacarriga Castle. He laments how little archaeological sites are valued in Ireland, and suggests that Daniel preserves his pedigree in the British Museum, where he plans to donate his own collection.

Scope and Content: Caulfield writes of his "mania for the preservation of [manuscripts]", and that "... no scrap of paper with any thing of a historic character has ever got out of my custody." He says of Daniel's manuscripts: "If you entrust them to my care, they shall be all regulated, and bound, the letters by themselves, any letter or even fragment by Dr. [John] O'Donovan, will be well worth having properly set up ... let not a particle be lost. The manuscripts from the 4 Masters ['The Annals of the Kingdom of Ireland by the Four Masters ...'] with the other matter from the RIA, these shall be all bound together ..." He discusses George Bennett's 'A History of Bandon', saying that Bennett "omitted to print much valuable matter he had and printed a great heap of rubbish ..."

He is grieved to hear of the "sad fate of [Daniel's] antiquarian [?library], the fact is the books were stolen from the good father …" He also mentions that he has sent 'The Life and Letters of Florence MacCarthy Reagh' and 'A Historical Pedigree of the Sliochd Feidhlimidh' to Madrid [Spain].
