Descriptive list of the Daniel MacCarthy (Glas) Collection
Text in [ii] headed, in English (in Gothic script, ornamented), A GENUINE SPECIMEN of the Pedigree of Jeremiah M’Carthy, whose proper appelation is, Diarmuid an Dúna. Comprises a paragraph -length entry on this Mac Carthy, and similarly sized entries on others of his forebears. Marks align the paragraphs with the names of persons mentioned at corresponding points in text of [i]. Information included comprises data on paternal and maternal forebears of the individuals in question; statements about their other relatives; together with biographic notes, such as occupations, distinctions, rank and other pertinent topics.
Text in the English language and in English script mainly, with occasional supplementary data in the Irish language and in Gaelic script, generally entered in sqare brackets.
Text in [iii], testifies, in Latin, to Bishop Butler’s approval of the accuracy or the validity of material presented by [i] and [ii].

Undated (possibly 19th cent.) partial copy, in parchment (ca. 61 x 75 cm), of PR70/D/1/1 (see above for details). Writing (in ink, on r., ruled) mainly. Reproduces text on left-hand edge in the ascender of the latter’s [i] ‘L’ -shaped entry, but excludes text at its base. Gives as one central column items laid out separately in its [ii]-[iii], excluding wax seal. Irish-language text not given in Gaelic script, but rather in Gothic. Notes, with reference to possible family name signatories to [ii] at the latter’s lower right- hand edge, that ‘(Four or Five other names of Witnesses quite illegible)’. Note (by copyist ?), at mid-lower edge: Copia vera / Chas F Hoch.Rui – [?]. V. blank, apart from this entry: ‘An Genelac Treib ~ an Duna ~ Son ag Contae Corcuidhe’. Five vertical fold and two horizontal folds are present, with the item folding into lesser-sized shape (ca. 22 x 13 cm). This fold presents aforementioned v. entry on its r.
