He mentions letters of thanks he has received from Sir Redmond Barry in Melbourne, Australia and Mr Browne "of Hobart Town" [Tasmania] for the books he sent.

Caulfield writes he has visited several cities in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany. He has "seen all the libraries and the [manuscripts] they contain ... [but they] have nothing about Ireland ... all the [manuscripts] are local." He discusses the difference between Ireland and the countries he has visited, where those "who could boast of your pedigree and whose name was connected in old times with kings" have public recognition and their claims to the clanship are "immediately recognised by the state."

Scope and Content: Caulfield writes that he has returned to Cork after travelling to numerous cities in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, and France. He discusses the library collections of the "old Jesuit College of Leuven" [Belgium], and how he found references to several Cork men in their collections. He also discusses Daniel's proposal to preserve a pedigree in the British Museum, and to print copies so "it will be safe for all time."
