Extent: Part of:

PR70/C/4

Scope and Content: Letter dated 15 May 1855: Windele writes that he has carried out the record search suggested to Daniel by Dr John O’Donovan, but that he only found two pedigrees relating to MacCarthy Glas [copies of these pedigrees are included on the back of the letter]. He says he has given Daniel’s note and its “benevolent enclosure to Mrs McCarthy who promised to attend to your queries.” He also mentions that he found “the poor chieftain [Charles McCarthy Duna] stretched on his pallet, they feared in his final sickness.” Letter dated 19 April 1860: Windele discusses a “chest of family papers” belonging to Jeremiah/Jerry McCarthy Duna which was lost, and how Jeremiah’s certified pedigree [see PR70/D/1/1 (1)] appears to be the only document from the family papers which has survived.
