Page 93 – 95. Letters from Denis Florence MacCarthy, 6 North Road, Clapham Park,
London SW to Daniel MacCarthy, Barnstaple [Devon, England]. Level: file
Extent: Part of:
PR70/C/3
Scope and Content: Letter dated 5 March 1873: Denis thanks Daniel for sending him the 'Nation' newspaper from "last Saturday" which included a poem about the MacCarthy Mor, and which it seems Denis was the author. It is possible that Denis meant to write April instead of March when dating the letter, as a poem relating to th e MacCarthy Mor appeared in the ‘Nation’ on Saturday, 29 March 1873, which was the most recent Saturday preceding 5 April 1873. See the poem on page 97; letter dated 8 April 1873: Denis says he is glad that his poem has given Daniel such pleasure, and discusses how he began to compose it while out for a walk to Roupell Park.
